“To Infinity and Beyond….”

Well, maybe not quite that far. But it is about 4000 kilometers far. All the way to the west coast of Canada. Just beyond the horizon. I know it is there because Maggie and I spent a month this past summer travelling the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. I fell in love with B.C., and Maggie is from Vancouver Island. The decision to head the wagons west next summer seemed like the next chapter in our love for exploring the great outdoors.

Someone once said if you set your horizon to far out, it becomes unobtainable, too close, and you face disappointment when you get there. Well, we have both been there, and the place worked its magic. I know that we have made the right decision. We are going to have the opportunity to meet new people, hike new trails and to just immerse ourselves in a new New Horizon.

The pictures below are just a few of the thousands we took. Please enjoy.

So far it has been a compilation of rants, self exposure, stories, pictures and just plain silliness. after all, I'm 73 and allowed! Always looking forward to the blogs of others, there is so much that needs to be shared, and with that in mind......... Now it is your turn.

Dan these are absolutely spectacular photos. I must admit I was a bit concerned when I saw the bear pic but then I read your comment above. How fortunate you are to be living amongst such beauty. It really is breath taking country. No wonder it’s number one on my list. Thank you for adding even more wonder to my wonder lusting dream of visiting Canada. Cheers.

We were in a car when I took this shot. Bear did not seem too interested in us. Coming from where you are, I would be tempted to land in Vancouver. If you have not been there before, it is worth spending a few days there poking around. From there take the Trans-Canada hwy 1 east to Kamloops, Revelstoke, and eventually to Banff National Park. From there if you want you can take a side to the town of Banff. Then back up to hwy 93 to Jasper National Park.(The highway runs thru it) . At the junction of hwy 16 and 1, you can go west to Prince George or 16 east to Edmonton. We came in from Edmonton as that is where we landed. This drive takes you more through the mountains than landing in Calgary and then heading to Vancouver. Before you embark, consult road maps on line (Google?). There is way to much to see out there than you can do in one trip. Enjoy your trip, and bring a big SD card loaded for bear!!!!! Cheers.

We assume it was a relatively safe distance from the black bear you took photos of…We want to do what we consider an epic drive of the Rockies, starting out from Vancouver. Well some say;s easier from Calgary. Any tips basis your experience traversing this great north as we see it?
